Joseph M. Yorio
President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Joseph Yorio has been President and Chief Executive Officer at School Specialty, Inc., since April 2014. He is an accomplished executive with over 20 years of experience working with large multi-national corporations in the manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, logistics, and security and defense industries.

Prior to joining School Specialty, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of NYX Global LLC, a logistics, supply chain and security, consulting and program management company, while also performing the duties and responsibilities of Managing Director for Vertx (a NYX Global client). Previously, he served as President and CEO of Xe Services/Blackwater Worldwide, the high profile private security and defense contracting company, where he successfully led various turnaround initiatives resulting in substantial top and bottom-line growth while executing a successful liquidity event.

Throughout his career, Mr. Yorio has held various executive, operations and sales leadership roles, primarily focused on distribution and logistics. He previously served as Vice President, US and North America Air Hub Operations with DHL Express, where he was responsible for directing operations for the largest private airport and sortation facility in North America servicing the global markets. Prior to that, he was a Division President at Corporate Express, where he led a self-sustaining operating division that included six distribution centers. Earlier in his career, Mr. Yorio held sales, managerial and executive roles with Unisource Worldwide and Scott Paper Company.

In addition to his role as President and CEO, Mr. Yorio serves as a Director of School Specialty, Inc. He also holds Director Positions on the boards of Gallant Few and Lead with Action Foundation and Advisory Director Positions with Game Plan, Team Unlimited, Darby Project and CEO Challenges.

Mr. Yorio served in the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment and as a Special Forces officer (Green Beret) and is a medically retired combat veteran. He is also an avid triathlete, having completed ten full Ironman triathlons, two Xterra World Championships and has been named to USA Triathlon's "Team USA" numerous times.

Mr. Yorio earned a BA degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Saint Vincent College, an MS in Project Leadership and System Design from Cornell University, S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management, and an MBA in Management from the Florida Institute of Technology, Nathan M. Bisk College of Business.
